Tree and shrub pruning

Tree and shrub pruning is a science that requires years of experience to do right. In short, the technique requires the removal of damaged, dead, or structurally weak limbs. Each tree and shrub requires a different technique. Furthermore, the stage of maturity that the plant is in may also require a variation of pruning. It is complicated to get the job done right, but with years of experience, our Earth Smart team has it worked down to a sweet science.

Proper pruning ensures that the plant grows to its best potential. Pruning fruit and vegetable trees ensure a high crop yield so that you can enjoy more fresh produce in your home. There are many myths about when to prune; the truth is that pruning can be done at any time of the year. In the seasons that trees grow, pruning may cause bleeding but does not actually damage the tree in any way.

Hedging is best completed in the spring and fall. In the spring, hedges are trimmed to remove winter damage such as dead leaves. This is also the time of the year that hedges tend to grow the most.

By early fall, your hedges have likely achieved their maximum growing potential. If you wait too far into fall for hedging, you risk them not recovering fast enough to prevent frost damage.

Depending on the size of your hedges, we will use a variety of instruments to trim them. We use a combination of power tools and traditional tools that ensure that the job is done precisely.

We also will ensure that the trimmings are disposed of properly. If the amount of trimmings is large enough, we will take them away and properly dispose of them
